[Assam] About the Name Assam

As we all (must have) read, one version of the name Oxom (Asom/Aaxaam) is that it came as the land was 'oxoman', and for whatever reason it became Ahom. This is in 'Hemkox' also.
'Hemkox' also has another explanation. The word 'Oxom' came as the "Adibaxi"s (people that the Ahom ruled) thought the rulers (the Ahoms) were great and were 'oxom' - having no equal. So the place that they ruled were also Oxom. Then it became 'Ohom' or Ahom or Asom and then Assam.
I haven't followed this thread fully (I've been getting only few mails here and there for some reason) and apologize if this is not in reference to the context.
