‘Medical college to come up if Congress wins’
Correspondent
DIPHU, March 29 – The Karbi Anglong Hills district will have a medical
college at Diphu if the Congress comes to power in the ensuing
Parliamentary elections, announced Himanta Biswa Sharma, State Health
Minister while addressing election rally at Dongkamokam in Karbi
Anglong on Saturday.
Urging the voters to cast their vote in
favour of Birensing Ingti, INC candidate for Diphu (ST) Parliamentary
constituency, the Health Minister claimed that if Ingti, were to win
this election by a margin of 1,50,000 voters, then within ten days from
the date of declaration of the election result, he would lay the
foundation stone of a civil hospital at Dongkamokam.
Taking a
potshot at Elwin Teron, ASDC candidate, Sharma said Teron is a past
master in splitting political parties. Despite knowing that his defeat
is imminent, he has dared to contest the election. After the end of the
British Raj, the INC ruled the country for 45 years and did the
development works for the betterment of the people. During the Congress
rule, the road construction was extended from 4 lakh km to 20 lakh km,
the literary rate was increased from 18 per cent to 65 per cent, Mukut
Mithi. Former Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh said while addressing
the rally. Lambasting the NDA Government, he said it divided the people
on communal lines for political gains. Mithi further said that revenue
generation has increased, employees are getting regular salaries and
per capita income has increased. Apart from this, he said even ST
forest dwellers cannot be evicted as per a new legislation passed in
December, 2007. He also appealed to the electorate to vote for INC.
“We
need to develop our infrastructure to march ahead,” Bhubaneshwar
Kalita, president, APCC, said while addressing the election rally.
Refuting the allegation levelled by LK Advani in a public meeting
during his visit to Kheroni Chariali, Kalita said , the Congress has
stopped illegal immigration. Apart from this, the security in the
border areas has been tightened. Advani wants communal division for
political gains and his wish to become Prime Minister will never be
translated into practice. Under the leadership of Sonia Gandhi and Dr
Manmohan Singh, the nation is marching ahead, Kalita said. He urged the
voters to co-operate with INC for more development and appealed to the
gathering to vote for Birensing Ingti for a record win.
