Now that the elections are on, violence will be on the rise.

Free & unfrettered elections are one of the best gifts a democratic
country can offer its people. Unfortunately, in India (and more so in
Assam), goons & goondas, jehadis, insurgents, ministers, and MLAs (let's not
forget those) have a field day. It is time for the dregs of society to reap
thier yearly bonanza.

One killed, 15 injured in Guwahati bomb blast

One person was killed and 15 others were injured in a powerful bomb blast at
a busy market in Guwahati on Tuesday.

The explosion in Lal Ganesh area occurred when senior Congress leader Pranab
Mukherjee was addressing reporters, just three kilometers away from the
blast site. He expressed fears about terrorist strikes.

According to the police, the bomb was planted on a parked motor cycle and
went off in the area which was packed with evening shoppers and vendors.

Mukherjee, who was addressing a press conference at a city hotel in Pan
Bazar, said terrorists might strike during the election time.

"We fear terrorist attacks. But having said that, we are ready to counter
such threats," the external affairs minister said.

Mukherjee said the northern part of Pakistan has become a breeding ground
for terrorists.
