Dear Dilip Da,
Jairamji seems to be on the war path. Regarding mining in Meghalaya, my observation will be the strip-mining of coal/ lime that has already wrought havoc in the Sohra (Chereapunjee) area. So, we cannot be sure as to what amount of caution the GOI will, and is capable of, exercising to safeguard the ecology and well being of the local populace. After creating the unmanageable chaos in Central India, if the GOI wants further problems in Meghalaya too, then the choice is its. Having said that, I do not think Jairamji has any interest other than his own and the local sentiment may be a pretext to push his own agenda. Dilip Da, have you heard about radioactive leakages that have killed people in 'sabjimandis' of Delhi; also the radioactive exposures in BARC? I shudder to think what would the GOI do in
allowing private agencies to set up nuclear power plants in a place like Guwahati after it gets the requisite dumped plants from the USA and fuel supply from elsewhere in accordance with its agreements with the USA.
