[Assam] Cost of living

I can only compare apples to apples. I know you guys in Europe and Australia pay way more than we do here. We paid, I think, around $9 a litre in Munich in 2008, and yes it is way too much.

What Americans pay for gas may be an international issue (when comparing other countries), but given our budgets & the standard of living, and what we are used to :-), it is something we need to contend with.

We also pay less for cars, homes, land, food, utilities than many countries. But that does not mean our budgets will not be stretched further with price increases :-). 
 
We earn in dollars, but pay in dollars too.
The average salary of an upper middle class American is about $5000+ per month (no! this is not the national figure that you get from the Census data) who can afford a car and an average sized house (on a monthly payment basis), but an upper middle class Indian nowadays gets about Rs.50,000/per month, if not a lakh or more. 
 
The gas price is only relative to the rest of our budget, not the price of tea in China :-)
