Diaspora has not failed. It just never lived up to the impossible hype
of being a "Facebook killer."

It just released a new version:

It has over 1 million users and many pods: http://pods.jasonrobinson.me/

("Pods" being individual installations of Diaspora on Web servers).

It's premature to write off Diaspora, or n-1, or GNU Social (see
Quitter.se), or many of the other very good social media alternatives.

In addition, there's exciting new ones like Twister
