Hi, all,

Airi Lampinen and I will be running a workshop at CSCW next February (in collaboration with Coye Cheshire & Victoria Bellotti). If you're planning on coming to CSCW, this might be interesting for you! The CFP is below. Also, I appreciate it if you can share the call with other colleagues who you think might enjoy participating in the workshop.

Thanks,

Mary

Networked platforms for peer-to-peer exchange and on-demand labor, along with the practices that they foster, are attracting increasing attention from CSCW scholars. This one‐day workshop will focus on the future of platforms as sites of work, collaboration and trust. We will explore how the emerging domain of research on the “sharing economy” could help advance broader conceptual and theoretical efforts within CSCW, while also more effectively utilizing prior work to inform research agendas and efforts in this sub-area of CSCW and beyond. The event will consist of diverse activities, with an emphasis on in-depth conversations, community building, and support for establishing new collaborations. Judd Antin, Director of Experience Research at Airbnb, will give a keynote address.

Those interested in participating should submit a 2-4 page position paper in ACM Extended Abstracts Format<https://na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3a%2f%2fchi2015.acm.org%2fauthors%2fformat%2f%23extendedformat&data=01%7c01%7cmlg%40MICROSOFT.COM%7cb90edfd577c94c0656c308d2ef4d0711%7c72f988bf86f141af91ab2d7cd011db47%7c1&sdata=2qpnzNLG3IqkPOaEnu84Ltqr432Oi4N3U1txXKPtakI%3d> that addresses the workshop theme. (For further details: https://futureofplatforms.wordpress.com/theme/<https://na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3a%2f%2ffutureofplatforms.wordpress.com%2ftheme%2f&data=01%7c01%7cmlg%40MICROSOFT.COM%7cb90edfd577c94c0656c308d2ef4d0711%7c72f988bf86f141af91ab2d7cd011db47%7c1&sdata=hhk51SiiDC3PeEEQnCECiaUR2c8KaUH3hBJHby32F4I%3d>) We welcome submissions from those interested in participating, regardless of their perspectives and disciplines of origin. We encourage the submitters to discuss their interest in the theme, welcoming reports of (preliminary) empirical results, theoretically oriented pieces, as well as short manifestos regarding next steps for working on the topic. To promote broader participation, particularly from the industry, we offer the option of submitting alternative materials of rough equivalence (e.g., a design portfolio, white paper, or similar).

Selection Criteria: Submissions will be peer-reviewed with the help of our program committee. They will be accepted based on the relevance and development of their chosen topic, as well as their potential to contribute to the workshop discussions and goals. Up to twenty-five participants will be invited to participate in the workshop based on reviews of the position papers or alternative materials. At least one author of each accepted paper or creative work must attend the workshop. Additional authors will be accommodated where possible (depending on the volume of submissions). Participants will be expected to read all accepted position papers in preparation for the workshop.

How to Submit: Submissions and questions should be directed to futureofplatforms.cscw2016 at gmail.com<mailto:futureofplatforms.cscw2016 at gmail.com> on or before the submission deadline. More details on the workshop can be found at: https://futureofplatforms.wordpress.com/<https://na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3a%2f%2ffutureofplatforms.wordpress.com%2ftheme%2f&data=01%7c01%7cmlg%40MICROSOFT.COM%7cb90edfd577c94c0656c308d2ef4d0711%7c72f988bf86f141af91ab2d7cd011db47%7c1&sdata=hhk51SiiDC3PeEEQnCECiaUR2c8KaUH3hBJHby32F4I%3d> Please submit your position paper in PDF format by December 11th, 2015.

Archival Copies: Submitted abstracts will be archived on the workshop’s website, but will not appear in the CSCW proceedings. Authors will maintain all copyright over their work.
