The Hertie School´s recently founded Centre for Digital Governance<https://www.hertie-school.org/en/centre-for-digital-governance/> is looking for a postdoctoral researcher (f/m/div) on a full-time (40 hours/week) basis. The contract gives an independent candidate initially three years of postdoctoral funding in any area that complements the research of the Centre staff<https://www.hertie-school.org/en/digital-governance/people/>. It shall commence as of September 1, 2020 (or later in the year).
Tasks:

§  Your main tasks at the Hertie School will be to further develop your own independent research programme with relevance for the Centre. This includes a clear research focus on digital transformation and topics such as the intersection of policy, information technology, government, and the public; governance/regulation of digital technologies and their providers; information and data control; ethical issues of digital technologies; government transformation (policy making and service delivery) via digital technology.

§  This should be an opportunity for establishing a prominent individual research career, whilst at the same time facilitating the establishment and visibility of this new Centre.

§  You will also have an opportunity to contribute towards core activities of the Centre for Digital Governance, such as supporting grant-writing activities or helping with the organisation of the Centre´s research colloquium and smaller workshops or events. Teaching and other career development activities are also available. Successful grant applications could lead to a lengthier tenure with the Centre.

Profile:

§  You will have a strong record of academic research with good ideas for taking your research forward or extending it into the area of digital transformation and digital governance.

§  You will have or be very close to having a PhD (or equivalent) in the social sciences or in a related field with a record of publications or other academic contributions.

§  You will be self-motivated, yet keen and willing to collaborate with colleagues in the centre, whether in academic discussion or full scale research.

§  Excellent oral and written communication skills in English. Proficiency in German is useful but not obligatory.
